For students in Croatia, the parents are main sponsors

studenti

Results of Eurostudent research, conducted for the first time in Croatia show data on socio-economic status and living conditions of students that have been systematically explored for the first time on a sample of 4.660 students.

According to this survey the cost for students is 15.755 kunas per semester. Direct costs as tuition, fees and other expenses related to the study amount to 2.816 kunas, and the largest portion goes to living expenses, 12.939 kunas. Not all students’ spending is close to average and there is a considerable dispersion in the population, but for parents of prospective students, this is certainly a huge expense. Especially when one considers that 82 percent of students rely on family as the main source of funding.

In addition, it appeared that the largest number of students is living with parents - as many as 45 percent, more than half of the students do not work during the semester. When you take into account the fact that 60 percent of those in the system are paying fees, and only 28 percent use scholarships as a source of funding, it is clear that for studying you should definitely have the financial resources. 88 percent of Croatian students enrolled prior to age of 20, and 60 percent of those in the system are paying tuition.
